Pangaea is Europe’s largest student-run music festival, operating three times a year at the University of Manchester. A few of us, whilst studying at the Manchester School of Architecture, combined our interests in festivals and architecture to create PXA – A subdivision of the decor department, dedicated to building creative structures.
From 2015-2016 I provided design coordination, resolving ways for architects and artists to create their ideas, sourcing materials, organising fabrication and consoling others when a day before the festival opening, rooms were locked off for asbestos clearing.
Below are some of the structure we designed and worked on.
Unbuilt kinetic wind installation for Blissfields Festival, in the style of artist Anthony Howe.
A basic Grasshopper script was created to simulate the installation rotating. This allowed for clash detections and a better understanding of the visual effect being created.
Translucent, mirrored cube lamp mounted on corner with single spherical light source.
Studying at Manchester School of Architecture I designed a transport interchange integrating into Manchester Airport.
